7th October 2016. WIA Reform Group – News Letter Number 23

Directors Andrew Smith & Paul Simmonds to visit VK5 and VK3 clubs.

President gets personal.

Good afternoon,

A lot to report this week.  Let’s start with the positive news.  Directors Paul Simmonds and Andrew Smith have announced that they will be travelling to VK3 in November to visit a number of clubs.  Details are still being planned, but Victoria’s largest club, EMDRC, released the following news:

WIA Directors Paul Simmonds VK5PAS and Andrew Smith VK6AS are traveling to Melbourne and would love to meet as many VK3 / Melbourne hams as possible for a chat.

The Eastern and Mountain District Radio Club will host the evening discussion.  The club will provide our rooms and fire up the BBQ for dinner, providing snags, bread and salad, and make a night of it.  The BBQ will be fired up from 6:30pm, with the Talk from Paul and Andrew to begin from 8pm.

EMDRC Clubrooms 13a McCubbin St Burwood Vic 3125 vk3er@emdrc.com.au The invitation is open to all hams, come along and meet your WIA directors and hear what is really happening.

We hope to have the evening broadcast on the VK3RTV – ATV system.

We understand that Andrew and Paul will announce further meetings at VK3 clubs, including Albury/Wodonga, in the near future.

Please get along to one of these presentations to hear what Paul and Andrew have to say.  It is your opportunity to ask questions.

Unfortunately, it appears that the majority bloc of the board will aim to delay and stonewall the proposed audit at every opportunity.  They will play on the cost angle.  It doesn’t wash and Andrew and Paul will explain why this audit is justified.

Every member needs to hear why this audit is important to the future of the WIA.

We understand that at least one WIA Director is contacting people and discrediting the information sessions that Paul and Andrew are presenting in VK5 and planning for VK3.

All members deserve to hear a balanced argument for the future of the WIA.  Much of what needs to be said is unsavory, and many don’t want to hear or accept the reality of what has been going on in the board room….

We need open, balanced information to be shared at clubs, on news broadcasts and in AR Magazine.

Now to the bad news.  In the October issue of Amateur Radio Magazine, we were somewhat surprised to see the President of the WIA, Mr Phil Wait, refer to Andrew and Paul’s efforts to bring about change as “Elephants in the room”.

Our Board must be at absolute loggerheads for such serious considerations (dissolution of the board and appointment of an Administrator) to be presented.  Mr Wait goes on to explain that Andrew and Paul have sought legal advice.

Any readers who have been uncertain about the cohesive operation of our board should be alarmed at Mr Wait’s words.

The WIA is currently advertising for its fifth Treasurer in twelve months….what does that tell you?

It should further concern members that the Board is blatantly censoring any balanced access to Amateur Radio Magazine and the national news broadcast.

Please, write an email to the Editor of AR (editor@wia.org.au) and the National News Broadcast (nationalnews@wia.org.au) service asking that they publish the “other side of the story”  (please copy us in on feedback@wiarg.org).  Only with your voice will we overcome these draconian measures being taken by the Board to censor free speech.

Please forward this email to your local club and friends.  Take a copy when you meet local amateurs for a coffee.  If they contact Feedback@wiarg.org we can send them a newsletter direct.
